Research Collaboration

After spending some time in the online databases and exploring your selected topic, what is one discovery you've made or idea you can share that might be useful to your peers throughout their researching process?

Dont miss a step.. always get the assignment done when it is due. it is a pain to try to catch up when you get an assignment everyday.

Dont believe everything that you read on the internet. make sure it is a creditable source. make sure it is true or whatever, any one can post whatever they want, its free speach.Yeah!!!!

Just make sure you have extra resources to fall back on incase the ones you had didnt have enought information that you were really looking for.

Using a related search feature may give you new ideas on what to search for.

i recommend adding as many keywords as posible in your search query to get the most accurate results

I personally did not like using the databases I prefer to use books. When using the databases I found that there were too many other things being thrown into the mix and I would rather sit at the library and look at the name of the books instead of looking at all of the unrelated topics that pop up in the search.

I def think that it's easier to wait to use info from a database until you find one that has lots of information you can use. If you find on or two facts you like, you can prob find the same fact or one like it on another database. It's much easier for citations and stuff to have a few really good databases.

I like that databases more than a regular search engine. For one you can reduce your topics and get more on the topic you are actually looking for. The information is credible and factual. I would have to say that databases are the way to go when looking for a certain topic.

After starting the research process i found that if a comment has been made more than once then maybe it is important and should be used in my paper.

Get started early. Something that we all have trouble doing in our younger years.

After you search for your key term, when the sources come up, look underneath them and it will say how much of the essay is actually about your search topic. It tells you what percentage of the essay is actually about your topic, it really helps to choose what essays to look at and it helps save time.

I think it's definately easier to wait to use info from a database(s) until you've found a database with lots of info you can use. If you find a database with a fact or 2 you like, you can most likely find the same fact on another database. It makes it easier for citations etc.

Yeah, so you all need to stop pirating music, because I am doing my paper on my music piracy.

And that's all that really matters.

I mean do you really want the RIAA busting a lawsuit on you? In all seriousness, the RIAA sued 717 people last year for copyright infringment concerning music piracy, and their latest trick is to nab college students. So stop that illegal mp3 thang.

btw -

Anyone know of any good parties this weekend?

The reasearch process seems a little too much for me. I am not too fond of all the "excess" steps. I understand where they could be quite helpful to those needing help with shaping their paper, yet if one knows not only the direction of their paper but the structure that essay will have then certain aspects of the expected process seem... redundant. However, I understand that the purpose of all these requirements is to educate us all in areas we may one day need in life. I am just using this open forum oppertunity to vent some of the frustration I have accumulated throughout this whole ordeal. (Wow, that was a whole lot of words that don't really say that much. Do I still receive points for overcomplication?)

After reading the first batch of comments, I am quite please with the specific, thoughtful feedback you have offered to each other. Keep up the good work!

As you get further along on your paper you may realize you want to go in a different direction, but don't panic...I havn't! But I am a bit worried why my chicken is still frozen on the inside? Anyone want to trade ovens?

p.s. no trade backs

Work on things ahead of time...then it wont seem like so much at one time.

Make sure to remind yourself for when something is due. Write it down or something so you will not forget but instead of just remembering that it is due on a date remind yourself to put aside a specific time to do it. Remember there are papers in the library so you can do your works cited perfectly. Also listen in class because the teacher will remind you that something is due or the due date has been extended.

The later you wait to do somthing the more stressed you are going to be. So pay attention to due dates and the amount of time you have to complete something.

Keep up with all of the little assignments that are part of this project, it is real easy to get behind. also i did think the databases were nice but it is a little difficult finding real specific documentation.

You may have an idea of what direction your paper may take; but the research of said topic may change your perception of it and therefore altering your original concept of that topic. I can imagine that this has happened to more than one student involved in this process. I only hope that this newfound knowledge does not leave me more biased that I would have originally planned. To sum the source of my frustration into a sentance: Faith is a wonderful and essential thing; blind faith can create alot of blind and ignorant people. And there are ALOT!

I have definatly found that doing this paper in parts is A LOT better than doing it in like, one or two big work marathons like I've done in the past. The most notable reason being that I end up with more content to work with because I have different ideas each time i approach the paper, and it help me make more filler to get up to that 8-10 pape range.

i did have a problem finding what i needed on the databases. probably just confusion on never working with them before
